Okay, there’s this prince, see, and everyone wants him dead, and he wants everyone who wants him dead, dead, and there are a lot of battles and blood, and oh my he’s got quite the attitude problem. He doesn’t even bother to learn the name of one of his major sidekicks. This is epic fantasy in its darkest vein, a sort of anti-LOTR where it’s impossible to tell the good guys from the bad guys and we’re not even sure who the “orcs” (Leucrota) are fighting for or why. About a third of the way through, the author starts dropping hints that this “Medieval European” world is not quite what it seems – eventually with horrific results. Fun reading, in the way that a gruesome train wreck is interesting to read about long after the fact.
