I definitely recommend this book, Russell Freeman summary of the events leading to April 9, 1939 as remarkable. I learn so much of Marian Anderson, her humble beginning and her happy childhood, before her father’s passing. This story relates to all the people in the world that have a dream; and if you fail one time, try again until you succeed. Mariah Anderson decision to travel to Europe, takes her out of her comfort zone. For example, she had to dominate the language in which she must sing. Another aspect of this book that I learned was about the Church that Marian attended. This Church, help her through her youth. Also, thanks to the Church, she was able to finish school at age 24 years. Then she was able to continue with her singing lessons. The DAR-(Daughters of the American Revolution) decision was to not allow any colored performer at the Constitution Hall. The controversy for Artist segregation erupted and Marian help break Artist segregation in the South by refusing to sing in any place were seating segregation was active. She fought for Civil Rights by doing what she loves.
