Set in the 19th-century, this book sends you back in time to follow the life of a young couple in Central Asia. 20-year-old Amir is sent from her semi-nomadic tribe to marry 12-year-old Karluk Eihon. Despite age and cultural differences, optimistic Amir settles into her new life and her new family. Just when she develops some real friendships, however, her older brother comes to take her back and marry her to someone else -- in a tribe known for their cruelty to women.
