When an actor from a daytime soap opera dies under suspicious circumstances, Inspector Charlie Peace investigates suspects among a group of talented actors and extras who exchange unethical services for their roles.
Unusual for Barnard, the ending was not quite as dramatic as usual, but the plot twists were mind bending. I especially appreciated the dramatis personae at the beginning, and referred to it several times, when I got confused as to which were real people and which were the characters in the soap opera. I wonder if "Eastenders" behind the scenes is as uncomfortable for all concerned as Jubilee Terrace. Fortunately, Charlie Peace can unknot all the tangles created by the unlovable actors, writers, and other hangers on of the TV soap. If you like puzzles, this is a great read.
