I enjoyed the book overall, but feel the synopsis is a bit misleading. The focus seemed to be more on the author's life in the Hutterite colony, not on the transition when her family left. The pace quickened sharply in the last part of the book (reflecting the faster pace of life among the 'English' perhaps). The book ends abruptly as well. Just when things were starting to look up and the author was adjusting well to the outside world, the story is over. The book was fascinating though, well written with honesty.

Excellent look inside a young Hutterite girl's life, who is forced to leave the colony with her family in the end.
An excellent read.

I really enjoyed this book and learning about a culture that I didn't really know anything about.

This book paints a fascinating picture of a world that many of us never come into contact with. Mary-Ann tells the story with an even hand, both the good and the bad parts of Hurrerite life are given equal weight. A must read for everyone!

This was a very easy read and very enjoyable. This was an accurate testament to the Hutterite culture and worth the read.

part history, part autobiography, part novel, I love it. I feel much more educated about the Hutterites and respect their lifestyle more now that I've read the book.

This book really helped me to understand the Hutterite people and to feel more comfortable with diversity.
