Whistling In the Dark captures what it was like to grow up in the 50's when children were watched over by everyone on the block. We know now that it wasn't all perfection, but back then summer was an endless outdoor playground from morning til night. It's too bad it can't always be like that. Sally and Troo had some good times and bad, but lots of people cared about them. It really does take a village. And to jkn14x, I think Sally O'Malley is a great name!!

Please tell me nobody really names their kid Sally O'Malley...it's not like the author had no choice!

this book is so well written, and sooo funny, written from the perspective of a 11 year old girl, so good, so recommended!!

One of the best books I have ever read. The characters were so well developed and believable that at I cried for them.
