Speculates what would happen if every single person on Earth simply disappeared. The Earth would be a world where city streets would still be populated by cars, but without drivers. Nobody to fix bridges, repair buildings, or maintain power facilities. After being controlled by humanity for millennia, the Earth would be reclaimed by nature. See how long skyscrapers and our homes would last if abandoned.

To us, it was unbelievable how this low-budget made-for-TV movie could be so well done. The subject matter is only too believable, as long as you accept the premise that humanity IN ITS ENTIRETY could somehow vanish from the Earth. The shots of escaped zoo animals, feral dogs and cats, and wild animals are amazing. Excellent special effects (collapse of the Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty).

Seriously, folks - I think that this documentary should be required viewing for any aliens ("green-minded" aliens, that is) who might be planning to invade Earth with the sole purpose of wiping out the entire human race.... 'Cause, if you ask me, I'm sure that after watching this documentary those aliens would be quite convinced that by annihilating the whole lot of us they'd be doing this planet a humongous favour. Indeed.

And, with all of that in mind - This documentary (about the survival of the planet Earth, sans humans) certainly did lay it on extra-Extra-EXTRA thick when it came to telling us just how much man (and everything he's done) has totally fukked this planet beyond anything imaginable (outside that, of course, of a real-life, Sci-Fi/Horror show).

Unfortunately, what the producers of "Aftermath" forgot to do was to offer us "disillusioned ones" some real hope that man just may turn his destructive ways around and finally get himself in tune with good, old Mother Nature (who has sure taken one helluva beating) and, thus, live happily ever after(math).

Anyway - Regardless of all of the impending gloom and doom that seemed to prevail in "Aftermath", I still thought that it was well-worth a view (even though it was an extremely sobering view, at that).

I really liked this movie, and found it to be well researched, and very informative. This is part of a series, however the rest have not been released yet. Other titles include "Swallowed by the sun", "World Without Oil", "Population Overload", & "When the Earth Stops Spinning"

Watchable (Fair) - Aftermath: Population Zero (2008) 90 min. Also known as "Aftermath: The World After Humans" is a documentary that shows what the world would look like if suddenly, all humans disappeared. This documentary, first shown on National Geographic, will grab you because of the interesting subject matter. Unfortunately, the documentary repeats itself too often and hints at things to come but never deliver. For instance, they show the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower and the CN Tower. They explain that in a few hundred years, both will come crashing down simply from the effects of the natural elements. But what about the CN Tower?!? How long would it last without man's intervention in maintaining it - they must've edited that piece out. The one piece of information I did take away was what happens to nuclear reactors unattended by man. Do they actually "meltdown" if unattended? Are there no cutoff switches if we suddenly had to abondon a nuclear power plant? This was scary because it only takes less than a couple of weeks for the cooling water to evaporate before the coils heat up to nuclear meltdown. Ugh!!!
