"You need a force of armed men to fight your way up the stairs of a tower like that"
"I wasn't planning on using the stairs." -Will

Look at Flanagan bring back things from the first book. When Will said that my happy girlie squill came out and I was so excited to see Will bring back some of his boyish, endearing Will that we fell in love with.

"Always remember to look up, it's the one direction most people never think to check " -Halt

I feel that with all this knowledge by the end of the series I will be a full ranger myself. Maybe Flanagans genius isn't that Will is the apprentice but we are.

"face your fears, and more often than not they will fade like most in the sunshine" -Halt

Will's name shouldn't be Will Treaty, it should be Will Halt. The matter would be (and is) proud of the apprentice. I absolutely adore Will and as I am in LOVE with Halt it pleases me greatly to see that Will is taking on some of his traits.

Will is a bard, I repeat Will is a Bard and I have to say I'm loving it.

He of course is a ranger through and through but makes a rather nice Bard as well. This fact shows the dimensions that Flanagan has given his characters. We all have those things (or one specific thing) that we are good at and meant to do, but that doesn't mean it's the only thing we are good at and want to do.

Seeing Will as a a full ranger is a nice change in pace. And whats even more fulfilling is how he dealt with his first situation 3 weeks after starting his assignment.

This book is full of witty humor and strategic situations that have you laughing and going "GENIUS" with every page turn!

When Will is in Grimsdell Wood for the first time it's a little scary. But over all really good book. This book series has really made me aware of how loud I am when I walk around. I cannot put this book down!!!!! I recommend this book for everyone who likes fantasy type of books!

Epic fifth instalment in Flanagan's bestselling series… I enjoyed the mystery aspect to this book. Intriguing, captivating, and well done.

BTW, there was a spelling error on page 268 and on the back cover.

An awesome book, just like the rest of the series. Although I wish I read Erak's Ransom first.

The most important characters in this book are Will and Halt. Will and Halt are two rangers that go on a long journey to kill the evil sorcerer, because people have gone missing and been getting killed in the north.

This is an amazing book to read because in some parts it’s really funny, but it has lots of action too. The Sorcerer in the North is a great book for young adults because this particular book has some swearing in it.

This is a fantastic addition to the series! It was engaging, interesting, mysterious, dark, and suspenseful, and every chapter left me wanting more! Though there wasn’t much action, Flanagan has a way of making the story entertaining anyway. Since the book was most definitely left on a cliffhanger be prepared to read the next one. I highly recommend reading these books in order to fully enjoy the characters and so you don’t jump into the middle of one of the story arcs.

I read the first half-dozen Ranger's Apprentice books to my boys when they were little to tween-aged, and they were a fave series for them, me AND my husband.
I think of all the Ranger's Apprentice stories, this one is my fave. You get the chance to see several of the youth coming into their own, and there is a lot of that youthful antics going on as they work through the challenges they face together as well.
The story carries over into "The Siege of Macindaw", so you'll want to make sure to have it close at hand as you finish up this book.

I liked this book. It read a bit like a mystery as opposed to you're typical run of the mill medieval fantasy, so I liked that. I also liked the slower pace, so that the plot seemed less rushed. In addition, the villan of the story was a better character than that weirdo morgorath, or the temujai, who were never described in detail. Finally, whatever people tell you, DO. NOT. READ. ERAK'S. RANSOM. FIRST!!!!!

"I try. Often it's enough for them to know they belong somewhere. That there are other people who don't judge them by the way they look. Mind you, it takes time. It's a lot easier to heal an injured body than a damaged soul." - Malcolm of Grimsdell Wood
