This was a strange book. It seems to go in 100 different directions, with plots and subplots galore. Just to give a clue, the story links Superman, and the death of Abel from the bible, a strange story to say the least.

The Book of Lies is convoluted page turner that links Abel’s murder in the Bible to Superman. The novel switches between first person and third person narration with the decent and principled Cal Harper as the first person. Harper is helping street people in Florida find shelter and gets dogged by a psychopath named Ellis who is looking for The Book of Lies. The disappearance of the book is linked to the murder of the father of Superman's creator in 1932. None of it makes sense if one tries to explain it but it is a fun read.

This is the first book I've read by this author and was quite impressed with his writing style, clean language & situations, good mystery & story line, and history. Lots of seemingly separate story lines going on throughout, but all tie together nicely in end. I'll be reading Meltzer's other books to see if they're just as good!

Brad Meltzer weaves a tale of mystery and intrigue in "The Book of Lies." Cal Harper has waited 19 years to see his father again. Cal was just a young boy when his father accidentally caused the death of his mother and went to prison for many years. He promised Cal he'd come back for him when he was released, but he never showed up. So Cal can't believe it when he and his partner stop to help a wounded man and it turns out to be his father! He's gotten mixed up in something very dangerous, but did he know what he was getting into, or did he just take the wrong job at the wrong time? Find out as the plot unfolds... Scott Brick does an admirable job as the performer.

This is an extremely poor story based on an disastrous father son relationship and the victims that cross their paths. 1 of 10 stars.
