Lieut. Governor Speaks Out on Education at U of L ConvocationBook
This Friday Alberta's Lieutenant Governor Lois Hole waded into what some might describe as a political hot bed- public education. Hole attended the first of four convocation ceremonies at the University of Lethbridge to install Shirley DeBow as the institution's 10th chancellor. "Public schools are under ever-increasing attacks these days," said Hole. School boards across the province have been announcing job cuts- 350 teachers in Calgary and 400 in Edmonton are likely to be trimmed in light of budget shortfalls. "I dream of the days when teachers are valued as much as hockey players and celebrities," said Hole.
