One of the top ten greatest non-fiction books of all time. Put all your other books aside and read this one. It's a classic book about war, and therefore the illumination of life. It will stay with you the rest of your life.

One of the best and most essential war books ever written. If you want the REAL Vietnam War w/o the BS, this is the perfect book to start.

Phenomenal coverage of the Vietnam War as witnessed by journalist Michael Herr. As he says: “.... I went to cover the war and the war covered me; an old story, unless of course you’ve never heard it.”

Absolutely brilliant writing. This isn't the boring History book your 10th grade teacher made you read.

To stress the impact of this book on written war coverage - a final quote by Hunter S. Thompson:

'We have all spent ten years trying to explain what happened to our heads and our lives in the decade we finally survived – but Michael Herr’s Dispatches puts all the rest of us in the shade.’
