With a political catastrophe to avert, Nicolaa asks Bascot to find the murderer of a disliked squire before the kings of Great Britain arrive in Lincoln.
I didn't find this story as good as the first nor the mystery as interesting but I like Bascot and I especially like the child he's rescued and now treats as his son.
