As I was re-reading all of Miss Read's books, I was struck by how especially well-written the first ones are and how diverse. I enjoyed the trilogy about Fairacre she wrote first, the books set in Caxley--Tyler's Row--just lots of great reading. A very entertaining author.

The first book in the Fairacre series by Miss Read, covering daily life in an English village, more specifically in an English village school. Lovely characters, with a little realism thrown in to keep it from being too cloying.
