Love this series and certainly hope there are more seasons! That being said, this episode had a couple of very unlikeable characters. The main one was Olivia, the mother of the Nigerian girl who was being trafficked. Even though she gave up her children when they were young and had had no contact for 18 years, she shows up in Shetland and creates havoc playing the heartbroken mother looking for her son, who was murdered, and daughter who is still missing. Constantly accusing the police of doing nothing, not caring, etc. etc. etc., I found her to be an irritating and detracting character who needed to be bitch-slapped and sent packing. The other annoying person is a recurring character, Rhona, the head of the office. Her main purpose is to appear, criticize everyone else's efforts, make demands and otherwise offer no substantive help. Still, all in all, the story and plot (as another commentator noted, a social issue de jour) were interesting. Hands down, Doug Henshall is a tremendously talented character actor and carries the series. I like Tosh, too, as well as the rest of the office.

While probably not my favourite of the Shetland series, we still love this show! I love the characters and setting and the fact that everything isn't solved in a day. I'm really hoping that Duncan gets his act together one day...

Season 5 was very good. Loved the additional episodes, making this one 6. I hope they continue the series.

I am having a hard time understanding some of the negative criticism from below. I thought this season was at least as good as earlier seasons which means it was very good. Shetland is still one of my favorites for sure. Six episodes is about right I think. There would have to have been a lot of "stuff" added to make it go 8 or 10 episodes.

Series 5 is at least as good as previous years, imho. There a lot of tension in the story of a kidnapped Nigerian girl, and her murdered brother. Jimmy Perez also has a romantic entanglement for the first time in this series, which may get in the way of solving the mystery. The Shetland Island setting adds a haunting quality to this show with its vast expanses of countryside and high cliffs coastline.

Could it move any slower? Implausible plots, deadly dull, homely actors. The only things to recommend this series are the magnificent geography and the opening theme. Not one shot of the famous ponies. Phooey! Fire the lot, hire a real writer and a complete new cast and remake the whole series top to bottom.

I'm still looking forward to watching it, the last one was the best. But how did two single stars end up as a four star rating here? Hmmm...
