Add a CommentA non-horror novella from Stephen King. This is more of a magical realism short story. It's not his best work, but still an enjoyable read set in Castle Rock.
Short, but VERY sweet! I loved the characters and the friendships that developed.
A good read.
Great book - reinforces that King is a great author and not only from the Horror genre. This little novel is far from horror and uplifting story.
Whimsical, gentle fable that you'll remember.
Stephen King is best known as a master of horror and suspense.
But he's also a man with a great humanistic heart.
He let his heart rule his head when he wrote this one.
You'll likely be glad he did.
This was a wonderful feel good story. It is a short story offering a small glimpse into life in a small town. If you are looking for a short feel good story this is the one for you. (No it is not a horror)
Had to set the 50-page rule on this one, just couldn't find King's groove on this story. Oh well, he'll write more.
I've tried Stephen King long time ago and could not get into horror as a genre. That being said, Elevation is such a lovely, hmmm . . . uplifting departure! King's writing style is tight and beautifully literary in this short work. Like Hemingway, King does not waste words in Elevation, but every word is beautifully placed, and characters are well crafted, and plot developed to support a strong theme. Some might think it's trite just because it's short, but I found it pretty profound.
As one previous reviewer stated, it's one I too would want in my permanent collection.
Not typically my kind of read, but something drew me to this book. In 146 pages, The King, has changed me! I want to buy this book and leave it at bus stops and restaurants so lucky people will find it and enjoy one of the best reads I have ever experienced. This book will be on my shelves forever and although I am generally not a person who reads a book more than once, I will read this again and again...grab it for yourself, give it a chance. I'll be surprised if you regret it. Happy reading my friends!
A pretty good short King read. Although I could of done without his political views.
