"In the Raverran Empire, magic is scarce and those born with power are strictly controlled -- taken as children and conscripted into the Falcon Army. Zaira has lived her life on the streets to avoid this fate, hiding her mage-mark and thieving to survive. But hers is a rare and dangerous magic, one that threatens the entire empire. Lady Amalia Cornaro was never meant to be a Falconer. Heiress and scholar, she was born into a treacherous world of political machinations. But fate has bound the heir and the mage. And as war looms on the horizon, a single spark could turn their city into a pyre. The Tethered Mage is the first novel in a spellbinding new fantasy series"-- Provided by publisher.

This Venice-inspired fantasy world brims with intrigue, reluctant heroes, and fabulous women protagonists. The start of a trilogy, it has its own satisfying arc and a hold-on-to-your-seats introduction to a big bad villain.

Since a young age, I’ve been an avid reader of fantasy. I picked this up and read it over just a few days. The story gripped me and drew me in. I was stunned by the complex characters with relatable motivations, complex plot, the element of mystery, and the intricate system of magic Caruso crafted. I’m eager to read the sequel!

A delightful and riveting book. A pity the second book in the series is only available as an eBook or an audio book. I do prefer the hard copies. But I want to read more!

Great start to a new fantasy series! Kind of reminded of Moria J. Moore's series since the main characters here are also magically tied to each other; however, The Tethered Mage is much more politically driven.
