When the revered children's author Mort Lear dies accidentally at the home he shares with Tomasina Daulair, his trusted assistant, she is stunned to be left the house and all its contents, as well as being named his literary executor. Overwhelmed by the responsibility for Lear's bequest, she must face the demands of all those affected by the sudden loss. A visit from the actor leads to revelations and confrontations that challenge much of what Tommy believed she knew about her boss's life and work - and, ultimately, about her own. Print run 60,000.

I’m a children’s librarian, and as I read the book, I kept thinking this sounds like Maurice Sendak. Then after finishing the book, I discovered his life was the basis of the book. Enjoyable reading, particularly if you like children’s books.

Now that he’s older, Mort Lear—a children’s book author and artist some reviewers think based on Maurice Sendak—lives in a house among the trees in rural Connecticut. Glass’s book tells his story and that of friends and associates, all with their own ‘investment’ in Morty’s life. Beautifully told, the story really becomes one of the boy Ivo in his most famous book, and the question for those who love Morty of who will know and tell his story. It left this reader to ponder who will tell my own. Good question.
