The latest book, The Bird Boys, I loved even more than this first.

Interesting setting (Beaumont Texas where Mama's Aunt Nunie lived) with Cajun expressions and oil field stuff. So I can relate to it. She is a very good writer --- interesting way to phrase things. Will read her second book in this series: The Bird Boys.

A solid debut detective novel that I picked up because the sequel was listed on NYT Marilyn Stasio best ten mystery novels of 2019. As I started reading the sequel it was clear that it was important to start at the beginning. Set in in Beaumont TX in1973, Dectective Thomas Phelan hires Delpha Wade, a parolee who spent 14 year in prison for killing a man who sexually assualted her. The story (mayhem against a petrochemical company and a serial killer) is less important that Delpha's journey to learn how to live in freedom.
