Comment
Add a CommentThis book should be required reading for teenage boys and girls. Emily Linden, through her own diary entries, reveals the cruel world of relationships, the pressure to fit in, and consent. I cannot speak highly enough of this.
Really interesting look at middle school life in this autobiographical novel.
Sometimes heartbreaking and often times inspirational, here is found the middle school diaries of a girl who made the unwise decision to "go to third base" with a male classmate and for the rest of her time had to fight off the label of "slut" and repeated urges from others to commit suicide. My only beef is that the author, now an adult and the moderator of the UnSlut Project, chose pseudonyms and didn't call out her tormentors by their real names so they got a taste of their own medicine. But this is a clarion call to women and men of all ages to put an end to preteen and teen bullying, before more kids feel the need to commit suicide - or to go postal.
