Lydia Eldredge longs to provide a sanctuary for her son, Nicky. But a constant threat comes from Nicky's drug-addicted father, who wants the boy and seems willing to do whatever it takes to get him. Dr. Micah Hatcher serves the immigrant population in Queens, but under cover of darkness he provides another service that must not be discovered lest his and his brother's lives be in danger. When Lydia and Micah's paths cross, they are suddenly wrapped up in each other's callings. Through unforeseen twists and turns, they seek a refuge of safety--for Nicky, for themselves, and for the needy people God unexpectedly puts in their lives.

Add a CommentA great story about disfunctional families and about having patience and waiting on God's call, about doing the right thing in all situations, doing for the least of these! And a great romance!
I have come to the conclusion that Kim Vogel Sawyer's books are predicatble. This one was especially predictable..but strangely I still like the book. I was ready to rip this book to complete shreds after I predicted the turning point event chapters before it even happened! But then I thought about mercy and grace and realized that the true message of the book is very necessary. Looking beyond a person's faults and seeing their needs is indeed true love and embodies the purpose of salvation and why Jesus died. BTW, the salvation formula communicated in the book was a major flaw .. but then again, [sadly], most christian authors have an incorrect formula for salvation.
I thought this book was ok. Micah and Lydia meet each other again after having known each other in Hawaii. Lydia finds out that Micah's job entails something that could jeopordize many lives.
