Solicitor Helena Flemming and pathologist John Eisenmenger investigate the death of cell biologist Millicent Sweet, an employee at Pel-Ebstein Pharmaceuticals (PEP). Eisenmenger finds that the pathologist changed the autopsy report to death by natural causes, even though Sweet's body was riddled with numerous cancers that all developed within the week before her death. Now Eisenmenger and Flemming are in a race to uncover the details of PEP's secret research project.
