I got about halfway through this film and finally stopped it. The characters are like from a sci-fi novel with bizarre names and bizarre speech. This is not what normal people speak like. I'm sure whoever wrote the screenplay probably wanted to sound like he had six or seven PhDs in his pocket, but that's not even how PhDs speak. A pompous Brit meets and marries a wild spirit in Eastern Oregon. They both enjoy fishing and marry. Their relationship is a tumultuous one which emotionally injures both of their sons, Gus and Bill Bob. Gus leaves home when he turns 18, determined to find his own way, but he goes into the woods and becomes a fly fisherman just like his famous father. Add a gorgeous blonde who loves to swim naked in his favorite swimming hole, and coincidentally loves to fly fish, and you've got the makings of a truly dreadful film. If any of the dialogue from this film came directly from the novel, then the novel must be total trash. Augustine and Titus, in particular, do not speak like normal Americans. Not by a long shot. They vomited more than one dictionary, probably an encyclopedia too.

This could have easily been produced by Hallmark. So, if you like Hallmark movies, you'll probably like this one, too. For me, Amber Heard was the only thing about the movie I actually enjoyed, however unbelievable it is that someone like her would spend her days fishing, or being interested in a fisherman. On the flip side of the coin, I really disliked the lead actor, Zach Gilford. His character came across as whiny and the narration sucked as well. The only scenes I liked Zach in were when he was with Amber.

A generally good portrayal of an idealized life communing with nature without having to earn a living in the usual ways. Throw in a goldilox with perfect teeth and an enlightened persona and you have heaven for a young man. Then golly gee the parents quit fighting and came and hugged him. The surprise ending is worth sitting through the movie if you weren't enjoying the scenery.

Watched this movie recently and all I can say is....RUN....don't look back. The movie was so bad....the only good thing was the scenery and that's about it. A very dysfunctional and disjointed movie....I do not recommend this one at all.

Kinda' like Walden revisited, but with romance.
Lovely young actors.
Reflective ideas.

An interesting sweet story , BEAUTIFUL scenery, and an uplifting theme (except for one preachy 'philosopher') about love and learning,.. and fly fishing.

And I have just now enjoyed seeing it this second time (!).
