Compared to Pierre Berton's novel, "Klondike: The Last Great Gold Rush 1896-1899," the Discovery Networks' television series "Klondike" lacks authenticity. I find that the television series seriously distorts history. Consequently, I would rate the television series "Klondike" at only 2.0 stars.

Gorgeous scenery and the story line based on a true story was very interesting.

I was so looking forward to this one but for me it was eh, ok. The story line got boring for me and the acting was just ok.

Looks like another book to explore more on the film which was based on "Gold Diggers: Striking it Rich in the Klondike" 2010 by Canadian author Charlotte Gray. A tamed version of "Deadwood" in terms of wild west violence but with a richer script on the spirit of by-gone fortune seekers and entrepreneurs. The extraordinary hazardous journey of the people portrayed in the series were not exaggerated based on available literature such as this dedicated source with striking photographs such as the climbers on the infamous Chilkoot Pass: http://klondike-history.discovery.com/

If you haven't seen it, this is brand new (2014), and it is excellent! A Canadian production that stands up to the best anywhere!
Be sure to wait for the epilogue!

Two friends traveling to the Yukon Territory in search of gold, facing the many hardships to get it. Great casting!

Never know. Tomorrow might have something in it today don't. In the end, the answer's "yes," from dead lands, new things can grow...things like wisdom and the simplicity of the world, from a man's needs. Because the truth is, you don't need anything ... except maybe hope.

Joe: I'm gonna buy me an orange.
Bill: An orange?
Joe: Work camp in Dakota. A fella give me one. It was like eating a color in juice form. A fruit right out of Eden itself. Inside, it's already sectioned up. A fruit divided into bites for you...it's like it grew for man to eat it. ... Almost makes you think of the creator.

Preacher: So, if there are only two things in the world...love and fear... what are you gonna choose?
Woman: Love. But I ain't seeing it.
Preacher: But you do see the fear, don't you? ... Why people are doing the things they're doing? It's because they're scared. And when you see a person like that, when they're afraid, you see the little kid in them. [Sighs] You see the scared thing inside of them and you can't help but love them.

Speaker: So in facing your future, I encourage you to follow Emerson's immortal words... "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path...and leave a trail."
====
All we wanted was to get away and find our own thing. Something that was real, bare-boned. A place to set up shop, carve out a future with our own two hands. In that moment we were one of the most potent and foolish forces in the world. Two men with nothing in their pocket, but a head full of hope.
