I read this many years ago and will never forget it. The stories of the sled dogs and ponies was heartbreaking; the hardship of the men indescribable. It is understandable that this book was never been out of print.
Informative and inspiring. This book is not only the author's account of his experience with the 1901-1903 Antarctic exploration but also a collection of other teammates' experiences. What really stands out is the author's appreciation and admiration of his leaders and teammates. A truly selfless bunch.
Brilliant. An understated classic of unbelievable hardship. The worst journey in the world is not Scott's trip to the Pole, but the three man trip in complete darkness for the eggs of emperor penguins in which unimaginable disasters befall them.
