Author wrote counterintuitive book that called the bluff of food snobs that cheap food is bad food.
The BBQ chapter is probably the most interesting & disturbing.
Chinese restaurant chapter enlightening in that author did some research and politely ask dish not on their menu in their language and it taste great.

I do not agree with everything he says but offers a different perspective on food consumption and purchase as well as awesome tips on how to find good food (and we're a nation that puts up with a lot of crap). I had developed similar theories (like the better Vietnamese restaurants are in the suburbs) but he also gave insights on other ways to read restaurants that I now use to analyse every place I eat.

The is an easy read, and as well, a good overview of 'getting lunch' worldwide. Though not always specific, it does present some intersting concepts to keep in mind when travelling. This review might help: ________________________ Essentially the tone becomes a shadowy attack on environmentalism and those who profess to want to 'grow their own, or eat local (he calls these people, Locavores, and shows how their preferences can cost more). Subsidized food growing< (ie; Saudi Arabia grows 50% of its own wheat, but at a cost of $500/ton(sic), versus $120/tone(sic) normal). Plastice bags are cheaper than paper, both in making and in the recycling.. And to use a cototn bag would rquire it being used 171 times just to break even with a plastic bag (thats 3+3 years aat once a week). Asserting that extra taxes on petroleum would work, forgets the massive trillion dollar subsidies in place for this industry. All in all a bit for everyone, and an easy read. There are notes and references that appear intersting as welll.
