Devastatingly beautiful. I've never seen it and wanted to see what I've been hearing about all my life. This movie is worth every award it won, but it is very hard to watch and will take some time to shake off.

I purposely have not watched this movie since it premiered over forty years ago. You may think this is because I despise Meryl Streep’s acting. However this is not true. No the reason I kept myself from watching this movie earlier was…

I remembered bits of the movie from childhood and was surprised by the time spent with the characters as New York bohemians. But I was delighted by the added layer. It's a dysfunctional relationship, it's toxic drug fueled friendships, our…

Well. That is totally sad. Haven’t seen it in 15 years and I guess I wanted to reach a new depressing low. Well acted/everyone’s so young. Love the Emily Dickenson poem “Ample make this bed….”. Deeply moving. I don’t think Peter…

Could not even finish it. Why do people love this so much? Also, her accent was terrible.

3 1383 08818 2731 Thus DVD seems to have a problem. It works for the first 30 minutes, then it freezes. I tried to solve the problem, but eventually I gave up. It really sucks!

it takes an hour and a half to get into the meat of the story, but when it does, it is entirely engrossing, though, throughout, Meryl Streep is nothing ever short of luminous, illuminating, a very Raphael painting, without which the movie…

Sophie's Choice was too slow moving & not realistic. It was a fantasy portrayal of NYC life during the time period. I love Meryl Streep but she was not convincing as a foreign immigrant. The foreign acsent was not convincing. The movie…

I don't recommend this movie. The story is weak. The movie is 150 minutes It took 5 minutes for them to present the main point of the story at the very end. It you watch it, you can skip right to end after you see the beginning. All the…

In my opinion - Out of this 1982 film's decidedly over-long 2-hour & 30-minute running time, only 30 of those minutes made Sophie's Choice worth watching. These 30 minutes were the moments (told in very vivid flashbacks) when the…

Just saw this movie again after all these years...I didn't think the movie has held up very well....the movie plods along at a snails pace and gets quite boring at times....the acting seems over the top by Kline and Streep.....the…

This film is still a gripping, sad film about the effects of WWll on people and the effects of mental illness on people.

I read the book first, as I sometimes do before I watch movies, or vice-versa, depending on what is available at the library. The book apparently won the Pulitzer Prize, one of the highest awards of literature. The book was full of…

The best parts of the film, involve the flashback story of Sophie’s life during the Holocaust. Those scenes are very convincing and evocative. It’s unfortunate that Styron and Pakula didn’t focus simply on this story, rather than weave…

This film could have been great. Meryl Streep as Sophie, and her flashbacks to the Holocaust were excellent, but the plot and the other characters just didn't make sense.

Sophie's 'choice'. My God -- what a choice. Exceptional film (admittedly a bit long for me though). Kline's and MacNicol's performances were exemplary. Meryl Streep was OUTSTANDING. Known for her ability to imitate foreign and domestic…

Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, and Peter MacNicol were all wonderful. The movie was exceptionally well made and written. Its only fault lies within the length, but that did not kill the film by any means. I can definitely see why the sadness…
