I look forward to the sequel, "The President's Apology for His Treatment of Women in the 90s."
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I think co-writing with an ex-president gave it a more real feel.
This book was absorbing and fascinating. If you like books with interesting plots, you will like this book; there are many twists and turns. Just when you think you have figured something out, you find out you are wrong.
Warning: the book opens with a very annoying Congressional hearing. I did NOT want to hear that crap after living through the appalling hearings in the past few weeks. My spouse assured me that was just the first chapter, and that was true. It is a real page turner; it will definitely keep your interest, and you will keep reading to see what happens next!
The most interesting thing about this book is how things work behind the scenes in the White House with the Vice President, White House staff, and Secret Service. I think Bill Clinton brought a lot to this book. James Patterson writes a lot of thrillers, but he could not have known all this inside information.
I do not want to spoil the plot, but there is something terrible threatening our country, and the President and a few trusted advisors have to try to figure out how to stop it. The scary threat is surprisingly plausible, which makes this a real thriller.
In this book, the President and his staff are intelligent, competent and ethical. He and nearly everyone on his team really care about the country. These people put the interests of the country ahead of their own personal and political interests. Reading this book, I felt that these people gave us the best shot to solve the problem and save the country. But I could not help thinking what a different story this would be if such a threat had occurred during the current administration. I am sorry to say that the people running our country today are NOT intelligent, competent and ethical, and I do not trust them to put the interests of our country ahead of their own interests. I hope and pray that our nation will not face a serious threat while these people are in charge. (PLEASE VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6!!)
I am a fan of Mr Clinton's politics. This book is a convoluted and highly imporbable tale. Mr Clinton never met a sentence that he couldn't turn into a paragraph. I did not finish this book, something I rarely do.
Not really well written. I think this famous and excellent author was too busy to work on it more.
Mostly good. The lectures on various themes go on far too long and seem to be Clinton trying to make claims about his own presidency. I really miss the early Patterson books that he wrote himself.
I enjoyed this book very much. It has the style of James Patterson and the inside knowledge of President Bill Clinton. I found it to be very interesting.
I've never actually read a Patterson before. I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book. Surprisingly, it kept me intrigued and I finished it in just a few days (partially because I knew there were over a hundred people behind me on the waiting list!). Others have complained about the technical stuff in the middle, but it didn't bother or detract from the story for me. Overall well done, I was pleasantly surprised and will likely give Patterson another shot at some point to see how I feel about him without Bill Clinton's writing in the mix.
Great book. Page turner. Only thing I wish was different was the time spent on the actual climax... I mean I know we are talking about an already 500 pg book but most of the book is the suspense leading to the climax, Regardless, read this book. I have no interest in politics whatsoever, but you don’t need one to like this book. You won’t regret it! Well, maybe the sleep you might lose staying up to read this.
A quite enjoyable thriller. I was a little leery as I have gotten a little tired of James Patterson novels lately but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. A little slow at the start and a bit hard to get into but once it got going it kept you reading. The ending really dragged out, they probably should have quit after chapter 126 as the final address to the joint session of Congress sounded more like Clinton is ready to run again and while the rhetoric was all very admirable it tended to leave the ending feeling rather flat.
Definetly worth a read though.
I was surprised that I enjoyed reading this novel. Ordinarily I eschew anything written by presidents and I am always leery of best selling authors like Patterson, but I thought the story was fast paced and as good as any cybertech thriller I've read. While the book's political views may seem onerous at times, and the "president's" speeches are as much fun as watching C-span, that rhetoric is pretty sparse in the book. Those that take offense to the politics probably brought that to the table when they decided to read it and not enjoy it. I have read a lot of dreck with lone heroes against the evils trying to end all things American, and most of that is decidedly Republican conservative leaning, but if the plot carries the book and not the politics, I consider them readable to a fan of the genre like I am. This novel fares well in that field.
i would not check this item out. but in the midst of returning four items i had checked out, somehow this item was made the fifth item , yes, the #5. on my receipt, the fifth item I returned. I saw the book in a small pile along with the four I HAD returned, so this was not done from 'thin air.' maybe it was waiting to be checked in, and i was the lucky patron who was recorded as returning it. it just puzzles me, so i decided to record the occurrence, my own way. I WOULD NEVER CHECK OUT A BOOK WRITTEN BY CLINTON AND PATTERSON.
very up-to-date and current in the details that make the story good. not sure why readers who are so partisan would even try to read this book. did they expect Clinton to write about a president who was more Bush or Trump like??
Read like it was written by a Republican hating X president. The story was absurd. Comic book material. The political speech at the end was right up Bill's alley, total BS.
Very disappointed. Too slow. Just could not get into it. Actually you could hear Bill in the background getting his point across as to how it is like.
This book is billed as one with details only a president could know; and only the kind of suspense Patterson can deliver. It lives up to the billing and the result of collaboration between President Clinton and James Patterson is a spine chilling page turner. Anything I say will be a spoiler so let me just urge you to read it.
Even with it's vicious attacks against Republicans (try and find one bad democrat, and one good republican. Exactly.), and it's massive political bias against conservatives, I still thought the book to be very entertaining. The plot was interesting and perfectly paced, the character were lifelike, and the twist at the end was very surprising. Overall, I give this book a 9/10 and a "Would Recommend Reading".
I could not put this book down! Stayed up til 1 am to finish it. You could see the meshing of Bill Clinton and James Patterson and the expertise of each one of them. So relevant to our world and today's political climate.
The authors said in their Times Talks they meshed the manuscript. When the big crisis takes over, each seems to have had a hand in international suspense, war hero lonely president, not so loyal staff, wonk cyber team, end twists, and relatable villains (who probably evolved from a difficult premise.) Reads fast and good, better if you skip the illness. Why slight hint on Paris?
The story line started out a little slow, but stick with it and you'll get a fantastic read. I found I was unable to put it down as the plot progressed. Loved it. Recommending it to my book fanatic friends.
This book started out with the voice of Pres. Bill Clinton. It was slow but as you got into the meat of the story, you heard the unmistakable voice of James Patterson. The intro set up is political and the end of the story is too...as you hear the 2 voices come together to give their take on what a democracy and it's government should be. They don't pontificate but lay it all out in the president's final speech. I bet Bill has been wanting to comment for a long time...as has James Patterson without being to one-sided. Good plot...good suspense. Good read...just stay with it.
great book! someone on here commented it was slow! not in the least! and i thought the speech at the end was awesome. very relevant to what this country is facing right now!
I am on hold for this book because my husband read it and loved it. Ever time I asked him are you done with book all he kept saying he was only reading about 30 pages at a time because he didn’t want it to end it was that good.
Hello, I consider myself a James Patterson fanatic. I have read over 100 of his books. I have to say this book is very slow. Many people were waiting to read it so I didn't finish. I turned it in after 150 pages. Had a hard time getting into it. I am on the list to get it again so I can finish. I was a quite disappointed that nothing grabbed my to make it a true page turner. It's way to wordy and a bit complicated.
