A fantasy buffet tease my way; delicious or not, feed the plot; of SpecOps, better than cops. Literature sway, fluffy but gay; geopolitics sought, stretched less taut. Want more wordplay, to be continued I may.

Multiple Recs! "This is a book for people who love books. It's a funny and clever tale about an agent who has to jump into books to stop the kidnapping of major characters." - Andrea C. "This book is weird, but in the most charming way.…

Quirky, weird and clever, the Thursday Next series is a really fun ride. In the first book, we follow a literacy detective, set in an alternate timeline that can jump into books to chase villains and monsters. The author does a great job…

It's clever wacky science fiction fun, with mystery and romance and time travel thrown into the mix. Whether or not you’ve read Jane Eyre, the literary shenanigans are a hoot.

An amusing bit of nonsense that I read out of curiosity, simply because I had recently enjoyed Jane Eyre so much. This is whimsical fantasy, of no consequence whatsoever. One of the best parts is Chapter 6, where the protagonist recalls…

Great book for people who love time travel!

Excellent book. Highly recommend for people who like wacky sci-fi and fantasy (Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and such). I'm glad it's a series and not just one book. The premise and characters are pretty cool and left me wanting more.

This book has everything I love. Book travel, time travel, revived megafauna and taking down Amazon-I mean Goliath.

A hilarious, wacky, and imaginative alternate history set in a Britain where literature is taken very seriously and time travel is the norm. The humour and references will be appreciated by anyone familiar with classic literature. The…

Read this sometime after reading Jane Eyre for maximum enjoyment.

Try as I may, I can't get into this book. The writing is not interesting enough to continue and I can't keep going long enough to get to the meat and potatoes of the mystery. Love the concept, hate the execution.

I loved Fforde's Nursery Crime Division books, but couldn't finish this. Thursday Next too down.

There was much in this book for a librarian like me to enjoy. The villain was a crafty and seemingly invincible adversary for our heroine SecOps Agent Thursday Next. That brings to mind the quirky names sprinkled throughout including…

I have fallen head over heels in love with Jasper Fford’s highly original literary world and am looking forward to his next book. Not sure that I fully approve of Thursday’s romantic choices, but hopefully that will be further fleshed out…

At first I found the novel a little hard to get into, with all the war and military talk and all. But the alternate reality of a literate and literature-knowledgeable citizenry (so unlike our own unfortunate reality) held my interest.…

The writing was crisp, the characters felt real, the world was...odd. I wasn't sure what to make of it, whether to take it completely seriously or completely farcical. It is a world where literature is revered to a near spiritual level…

Playful humor and a bit of alternate history set in a world where classic literature is the hottest thing in popular culture. I'd say it's more clever than outright funny and probably not even that if you've never read Jane Eyre. And if…

It's difficult to successfully combine different genres. Although clever and entertaining, I found the goofiness, instead of clicking with the action and drama, detract from them.

Combining locked-room thefts, real-life book exploration, time travel, literary battles, burping bookworms and re-generated dodos, “The Eyre Affair” is like Douglas Adams crossed with Terry Pratchett, with the best classical literary…

A quirky, clever novel based on an alternate universe (Great Britain circa 1985) where time travel is routine, reality bends in most original ways and literary characters can and do leave the pages of books. In this imaginary world where…

Brilliant farce/satire in a fascinating alternate world. Lots of fun for fans of classic literature. A worthy competitor for Terry Pratchett.

This was a throroughly entertaining novel, a bit contrived and cheesy in parts, but overall just really fun. Fforde has quite the imagination!

This is only my second Jasper Fforde book and after reading my first, I had high expectations for this one. Thankfully for me, this story hit those expectations and left me wanting to read more. In a crazy alternate world where literary…

I originally read this book when I was in high school and I remember not liking it. I'm glad that I gave it a second go. It's very much an 'English major/book nerd' sort of book and I don't think I'd read enough of the books referenced…
